A Bean's Tale of Running

Hi. You may be wondering why the weird title? It may even be the reason you’re at all giving interest to this blog in he first place. Well...I'm not gonna tell you why it’s called this, yet! I'm a Senior Exercise Science student with a final goal of a Doctorate in Physical Therapy. I use to be a swimmer but then became a college student and ate and slept. To my dismay the freshmen 15 had mauled me. So, due to my two unstoppable friends I began to run...actually it was more of an attempt to move on land when I knew the only grace I ever had was in water. I ran my first 5 miler the Bethlehem Christmas City Classic 2008. And, I did another first the Steel Man Triathlon 2009 at Lake Nockamixon. I've now started a running blog which I have no clue how to really manage just like my running. I am now training..I think, I hope for my first Half Marathon and olympic distnace tri. So, join me as I learn how the heck to write a running blog and how to run.

WARNING:

For all you grammar savvy folks out there be forewarned. This is a blog that is created from the mind of a most enthusiastic endurance athlete..at least I like to think myself one. I live to laugh and I hope I'll bring you a smile. So, please enjoy this, on the side, fun blog about swimming, biking, running, college, and life.

Old Friends Reunite

Dear blog,

I know we have been apart for a long time and I've neglected you, forgot about you, and down right not done most of what I planned. But will you forgive me?....Guess you have to you are an inatimate posting page on the world wide web.

Love,

The neglecting author

HELLO! what to say what to say? I'm not entirely sure where to start. It seems we have come full circle. In one weeks time I will be competing in the Steelman 2010 Triathlon at Nocamixon State Park. I am both excited and slightly skeptical because again...I over trained. I have a sick drive whenever I train to push harder and harder therefore burning out. I was keeping track of my diet and what I was doing but, I guess even though I now have a concentration in Nutrition and three years of Exercise Science I screwed up. So, we shall see what my times will be and how I perform its all in good fun anyway and at the same time a learning experience.
Since the last time we met I completed my Junior year with a 3.67 GPA getting it up from a 3.5 while taking 18 credits, not bad, not bad at all. I've taken a look at the University of Maryland, Univeristy of Delaware, University of Pittsburg, Duke University and decided to scrap the University of North Carolina, Boston U, MGH institute of medical technology without a visit due to exteremly high tuition. I will be visiting Arcadia University on Aug 12th for a Garduate open house. A good DPT friend of me and my Mom will be taking me down for the visit because of her relation to those on faculty, she is an alum of the program.
A quick re-cap:
I am now a Senior at the University of Scranton who will be receiving a BS in Exercise Science at the end of this year (Spring 2011). I am already accepted to the U's Doctorate of Physical Therapy program but have decided to apply to other grad programs. Those in the running are the University of Pittsburgh and Arcadia University. Both have pluses and minuses and each its unique program design. I'm starting to be swayed in the direction of Arcadia due to its close location to Bethlehem, PA, the UPenn connection, the prestige it seems to have with those currently in the PT field, and the location of Phili which a few of my friends happen to be willing to get an apartment at. The university of Pitt has its magical city, impressive highly ranked program, and the thrill of a brand new big place. I have to say I am still a bit worried if I will get in or not, the fear i always in the back of my mind. I believe the GRE's are going to play an important roll and a more intents study regime would most likely be prudent of me.

Now that we have that out of the way, back to the fun. This past winter season I competed in the Christmas City Classic again with Meg, Caroline, and Karal annnnnnnd! MY DAD! He came in 4th to last way to go daddy! (Side note: He has begun to actually train again for running. My father was a half marathoner in his college days, a top swimmer in his high school days, and more recently a black belt. I'm quite excited and proud of my Dad.) So, this year I dominated and brought my time down! I believe it was a 45 or 46 this year. I will have to double check this fact. Either way it was a major success even though we barley trained.

Me and my Friend Matt along with the Roomie Liz and her boy Chris attempted P90X to say the least I got dang good at push ups and was able to do four pull ups buuuuttt no weight loss. Until after when I stopped all forms of training ate what and when I wanted and lost a ton of fat....my body makes no scientific sense. The best I can say is that by not stressing it any longer the muscle burned more calories increasing my BMR and therefor burned excess fat. Now that I have started Tri training the weight shot up the inches remained small and I haven't seen any change. All quite strange. Its something to write about at another time.

Currently I'm coming up the the Tri. I've been training randomly running, biking, and barley any swimming. A coach would most likely see what I have been doing and try to choke me with my new tri suit. (I also have a road bike now hehehehe...a GIANT womens specific xs.) So, there is more to say at another time. SO for now...This is therunningbean.
